Have you ever wondered how some bakers or artists make money online? We’ve all been scrolling on Pinterest or Instagram and had thought, “how do they make money” “should I start a side hustle,” and “I love to bake, and that would be awesome if I could get paid for it!”
Today I’m sharing the three ways I make money online as a home baker and how you can too!
I’ve been building my home baking business for the last six years, and I’ve learned a lot.
I make money with multiple income streams, and the top three ways I make my income by selling custom cakes, establishing a food blog, and creating programs and ebooks.
Below I’m breaking it down so you can follow along and maybe start your own home baking business.
Let’s Get Started!
-
Selling Custom Cakes
When I started my home baking business, I got permits and licenses to make sure my home bakery was up to code and running as a proper business.
The main ways to get these new clients will be through social media and word-of-mouth referrals. Start with friends and family and build out from there. Another place to start is to sell your delicious baked goods at your local farmer’s market.
You can do various services like wedding cakes, cake decorating class birthday parties, delicious baked goods, and even private chef dinner parties.
Since each cake is custom, the prices vary based on the event’s theme, design complexity, guest count, serving sizes, etc. You also make some cake designs on styrofoam rounds (dummy cakes) to create new styles and take photos to build your portfolio.
Selling custom cakes has earned me $2,000 to $4,000 a month consistently for the last 6 years. If baking and cake decorating peaks your interest, here is a free cake decorating course so you can start this new skill right now!

Food Blog Content Creator
With my food blog, I create new recipes and tutorials easy for readers to follow every week.
By developing new recipes and studying food photography, I can earn income by incorporating ads through YouTube, Adsense, and Mediavine.
Running a food blog is different from selling cakes, as it takes some time to establish. In addition, you need followers that engage regularly and have lots of traffic. The more traffic you have, the more ad income you can get.
I also have partnerships with food brands where I create new recipes using their ingredients. Take lots of photos and create content for them to use as well. Ready to start a food blog? Here is a free Starter Kit!

Create Programs & eBooks
Another way I make money online is by creating educational material through cake decorating programs and ebooks.
Digital products like this are a lot of work upfront as it takes time to research, time to write, recipe creation, photo styling, and marketing. But the benefit is with some tweaks of new techniques, and I now have evergreen products to offer readers who are looking to learn even more.
